  • 4 oz cream cheese (for the frosting)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (softened, for the frosting)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for the frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for the frosting)

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk slightly and stir in yeast and a pinch of sugar; let bloom for 10 minutes.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Add melted butter, egg, red food coloring, and yeast mixture; mix well.
  3. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise for about 1–1.5 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Prepare the filling by mixing softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle on a floured surface; spread the filling evenly over it.
  6. Roll tightly into a log and cut into equal pieces; arrange in a greased baking dish.
  7. Allow rolls to rise again for about 30–45 minutes until puffy.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. For frosting, beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth; spread over warm rolls before serving.
